Moxa or moxibustion involves the burning of mugwort (a small spongy herb) either on specific acupoints or close to these points. Moxa can be used to strengthen both Qi and blood in the body depending on the point used. It’s also effective in treating muscular skeletal problems due to its ability to strongly move Qi and blood.

In China, moxa is often used directly on the skin, though this is rarely done in the west. A treatment using Moxa is generally relaxing and if the heat becomes uncomfortable at any point, the moxa is removed immediately.
